Essay The ii poems Dulce et decorum Est and Homecoming reflects the context in which they were composed. These two poems are about state of state of strugglefare and the issues caused by it. Wilfred Owens poem Dulce et Decorum Est is a poem that clearly creates and work out of what it was like during humankind war 1 while Bruce Dawes poem, Homecoming, focuses on the clean-handed dead soh perishrs in the Vietnam fight being returned to their homes. Although the ideas from the both poets set up their different contexts, the message of these two poems are the similar, that war is a wasteful loss of time and life.   In Dulce Decorum Est, Wilfred Owen highlights that war is brutal and filled with horror. Owen describes the gas attacks on the World War 1 battlefield and how the sol workrs travelled through th trunk when they were half-asleep. He describes one of the young men who did not adopt to put his gas mask on when the five-nines dropped. The alliteration and sim ile, Knock-kneed, sputter like hags, we cursed through the sludge is telling us they are having difficulty going through the mud. Owen uses graphic descriptive language of the effects of the gas making the victim die slowly, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. From this poem, Owen is saying to us war is big because you have to watch your friends or allies die when you cant paladin them. Behind the wagon we flung him in, Owen showing the idea that the soldiers crowd out their humanity because once they were killed they were treated like trash. Therefore, war is dehumanising.   In World War 1, it was considered the young mens duty to name for their country as seen in the title of the poem, Dulce et Decorum Est, centre it is honourable to die for your country. The young men thought war was a glorious and desperate experience but Owen creates an ambit of the horror in war.
